Evan Rachel Wood: ‘I’m Not Dating Rourke’

Actress Evan Rachel Wood has denied she is dating her The Wrestler co-star Mickey Rourke - insisting they are just friends.

Internet gossips circulated rumours the 21-year-old was romantically involved with Rourke, 56, after they were spotted out together in Los Angeles on a break from filming.

The pair reportedly became an item on-set of the biopic of 1980s wrestler Randy “Ram” Robinson, in which Wood plays Rourke’s on-screen daughter.

But Wood believes she has only been linked to her co-star because of her recent split from shock rocker Marilyn Manson.

She tells People.com, “Spread the word - I’m not dating Mickey Rourke. Everybody thinks we’re dating and we’re not.

“We are proud of the film we made together and I hope people will focus on the film and not get distracted by any nonsense.”

AFI Festival 2008 Appearance

I’ve just added 52 HQ images of Evan at her latest event - the AFI Festival screening for “The Wrestler”. Evan really seems to be loving the dark, vampy classic-Hollywood look at the moment! More will be added as soon as they appear.

Evan Rachel Wood Defends Marilyn Manson Breakup

Evan Rachel Wood is sick of the false reports circulating about why she and Marilyn Manson broke up.

“Manson and I both decided to take some time apart so we could concentrate on work. Someone used that opportunity to kick us while we were down and sell a completely false story,” the actress, 21, explains in a statement exclusively to PEOPLE.

Stories of the couple splitting in a bitter fight over Wood’s brother Ira, who had been living with the pair, getting kicked out of the guest house by Manson, 39, started popping up this week.

“Manson owns the house he lives in. My brother has never stayed there and the person that said such horrible things about Manson being ‘controlling’ and ‘emotionally abusive’ is certainly no source ‘close’ to me,” Woods says. “Manson has been by my side and taken care of me through the best and worst times. I love him as a person and as an artist. I will always be proud to have been a part of that.

“If any more attacks are made on us, it is the act of a desperate, selfish person, who is angry to no longer be a part of my life. No further comment will be made and we request our privacy at this time.”

Manson and Wood began dating in December 2006.

Evan Rachel Wood And Marilyn Manson Split

Evan Rachel Wood dumped live-in boyfriend Marilyn Manson on Oct. 23 after he tried to kick her brother Ira out of their guest house.

“Evan owned the house and didn’t want her unemployed sibling living on the street,” a source tells Star. “It was the tipping point. Evan was fed up with how controlling and emotionally abusive Marilyn was.”

Evan, 21, and Marilyn, 39, started dating in December 2006, as his marriage to Dita Von Teese was almost over.

TIFF Review: THE WRESTLER

The plain, indisputable fact of the matter is that Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler goes only as far as Mickey Rourke is able to take it. No offence to either Marisa Tomei or Evan Rachel Wood, both of whom turn in solid work, but either of them could be replaced by any one of a number of other actresses without doing any sort of damage to the film whatsoever. Not so Rourke, who is present in vey nearly every frame of the picture and whose presence looms large over even those scenes that play out without him. Even Aronofsky seems to be aware of Rourke’s huge importance to his latest creation, tossing his entire book of visual tricks out the window for this one, instead adopting the simple policy of simply follwoing his star wherever he may care to go. The entire weight of The Wrestler rests enitrely on the shoulders of this one man, a man whose career has been in shambles for decades now, a man brilliantly and perfectly suited for the part. Thank god someone had the good sense to bring Rourke in to replace the originally announced Nicholas Cage - it’s the single best decision anyone’s made in the movies all year.

The Wrestler Review

Review by Keith Uhlich

Initially, The Wrestler seems to have little to do with Darren Aronofsky’s filmography thus far. There was an immediate freneticism to Pi, Requiem for a Dream, and The Fountain that the lulling lateralness of this new film’s credits sequence (despite the aural presence of a hard-rock 80s power ballad) almost entirely counteracts. The strange new world expands with the introduction of Randy “The Ram” Robinson (Mickey Rourke) who appears to have his own Dardennes Brothers cam floating at back-of-the-neck level (the film is shot, brilliantly, by Maryse Alberti, replacing Aronofsky’s frequent collaborator Matthew Libatique).
